Default Famous Foods

Here in the US the fried peanut butter and banana sandwich is famous becuse it's associated with Elvis Presley. Same with the Caesar salad created by Caesar Cardini at his restaurant in Tijuana Mexico.

As I was brousing through the RB site I started to wonder what's famous around the world. Are bangers and mash, bubble & squeak and fried Mars bars famous in England or just ordinary foods that seem extraodinary to me living in another country?

Deep fried mars bars in batter. Take on bite and it'll give you an instant heart attack. Yuuuucccckkkk!

Welsh rarebit; which is a fancy name for cheese on toast, but I think you add a little more like real ale and other things.

Same with the peanut butter banana sandwich...it's actually good though in a sticky, doughy sort of way.

When I was a kid I thought Welsh rerebit was some type of rabbit..LOL.

I thought the same! (especially when I was just beginning to learn English. I always thought it was "Welsh Rabbit" before I saw it in writing. By then I was at least 15 or so)

You'll be surprised how many kids think that Mars is just a bar of chocolate, and not a planet in our solar system.

Deep fried Mars bars are a Scottish thing actually, very tasty too!
Bangers and mash and bubble and squeak are just regular food, to be honest I can't remember the last time I had bubble and squeak, when I was a kid I think.
I can't get my head around the American meatball sandwich though!

UK, a homemade meatball sandwich (mix of pork & beef, sauteed peppers and fresh meleted motzarella cheese) can be sublime if the meatballs aren't too large so the balance of flavors all work together. The problem we have in America is that the bigger is better theory that permeates all aspects of our culture including food. A meatball sandwich from a chain or fast food place can be disgusting!
