Look at these: people actually eat them!
Recipe Search: rattlesnake recipes at recipe-super-search.net
I got thinking about these recipes the other day and got to the point where I decided I'd do one of them. The thing is, I can't get hold of snake meat anywhere! darn.

| | hi, and welcome I think there is nothing wrong with it, if that's what takes your fancy.. lol My personal preference is to avoid it, but anyone that does want to give it a go.. I say 'why not' lol I guess it depends on where you are as to how easy it is to get things like that |

| | I really don't like snakes period. I couldn't eat it. Tassie has many venomous snakes and I have come across them from time to time, and have run the other way. We even had them in our backyard as a kid. I always keep the yard free from long grass because they come into the suburbs and every year there are reports of people finding them inside their homes. A friend had a Tiger snake on his front landing one summer. Each to their own but I once nursed a Tiger snake victim when I was working in Intensive Care, not a pretty scenario. |

| | Why is snake so revolting except because of a natural revulsion to it? Would you eat Tarantula? How about witchety grubs alive? Or how about ants in chocolate? I am ok with trying anything once. If I dislike it, I don't eat it again. Some find giblets used to make gravies horrible. But you aren't eating them. You are using them to flavour sauces. Snake? If you never tried it, then really-sorry-you have no common ground to discuss the pros and cons. For me, it's that there aren't many stores that sell it canned or shrink/vacuum packed. And as they seem to refuse to remain still just as you swing the cleaver, difficult to prepare. ![]() A rattler has a particularly nasty venom too. Probably why they chill them down a little before they kill them at Sweetwater. But, nothing is wasted. The tails make hat adornments and baby rattles. Skin makes belts, shoes and purses etc. Meat makes just about any dish you can make with any meat. The venom is 'milked' for medical purposes and despite the claims of the animal lib brigade, Texas has a very healthy population of Western Diamondback. I think you can get canned snake in the far east. |
